How feuerinfo.ch works
feuerinfo.ch answers a simple question: may I make a fire here right now? For every place in Switzerland – from official data of the Confederation, the cantons and the municipalities, in five languages, as a website, an app and an open API.
Why feuerinfo.ch exists
Federalism is a real advantage here: canton, fire region and municipality can each respond to drought in the way that fits locally – a south-facing slope in Ticino needs a different rule than a high valley in the Jura. The flip side is finding out. If you are standing outside and want to make a fire, it is hard to establish with certainty what applies here and now: the decrees are scattered across official gazettes, press releases, newsletters and dozens of cantonal pages, worded differently and updated at different times.
feuerinfo.ch brings that data together with modern means – including AI: collect it, analyse it, reshape it and show it as directly as possible. The goal is a site that answers the question "may I make a fire here right now?" for everyone – simply and without complication, with no need to read legalese first.
Who is behind it
plaiiin GmbH develops, operates and maintains feuerinfo.ch – the website and, once released, the apps. Address and responsibilities are in the legal notice.
Use is free of charge: no account, no subscription, no paywall. It is possible that advertising will be added later to cover running costs – we are keeping that door open. It would not change the free use.
What feuerinfo.ch shows
For every place three values: the federal forest-fire danger (level 1–5), the federal measure level and the locally applicable measure level – i.e. the fire ban that canton, fire region or municipality have decreed. On top of that the answer per activity: barbecue (gas, electric, charcoal), campfire, fire bowl, fireworks, sky lanterns, torches and more – allowed, with conditions or banned, each with quote and source.
Plus the current notices of the authorities, the history of the past weeks, the distance to forest and water for your location and the official sources. All 143 warning regions of Switzerland and Liechtenstein are covered; for larger cities, municipal bans are taken into account as well.
Forest-fire danger and fire ban: what is the difference?
Where the data comes from
The danger and measure levels come from the geodata of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and are synchronised several times a day. The bans themselves are in the publications of the cantons and municipalities: orders, press releases, official gazettes, newsletters and the cantonal forest-fire pages. feuerinfo.ch follows more than 70 such sources and is subscribed to the cantonal newsletters. Map and place names come from swisstopo.

How an announcement becomes an answer
The sources are checked several times a day. If a page changes or a newsletter arrives, a candidate is created. Every candidate is read and translated into statements per activity – "fire banned in the forest", "gas grill allowed outside the forest" –, each with the literal quote and the link to the source. This is done by people, supported by an AI assistant; nothing is published unchecked.
The statements are stacked by level – municipality before fire region before canton before Confederation – and immediately visible on website, app and API. Every change stays traceable in the history. Errors can be reported via the report form; corrections are added with their source.
What feuerinfo.ch is not
feuerinfo.ch is not an authority and issues no bans. The information can be late or incomplete – a cantonal order can take hours until it is published and captured here. Only the official publications of the Confederation, the cantons and the municipalities are binding; when in doubt, the information of the municipality or the fire brigade prevails. Website, app and API
The website is available in German, French, Italian, Romansh and English. The iOS app "Feuer Info" shows the same data for your location and your saved places.
To receive changes for particular cantons by e-mail, subscribe to the newsletter. Developers can obtain the data via the public API: /api/v1/status (all regions), /api/v1/things (all activities at one place), /api/v1/regions (geometries), /api/v1/lookup (coordinate → region). The data is licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0: free for non-commercial use with attribution ("Source: feuerinfo.ch"); for commercial use write to kontakt@feuerinfo.ch. The FOEN danger levels and the swisstopo map material are additionally subject to their own terms; in every case the official publications remain the binding ones.
